The Vercel skills CLI — Universal Package Manager for AI Skills

The Vercel skills CLI — One Command, Every AI Agent

The npx skills command is the universal package manager for AI agent skills. It auto-detects which AI agents you have installed and routes skills to the correct directories — no configuration required.

Before the Vercel skills CLI launched in January 2026, installing skills meant either manually cloning repositories, using each AI agent specific install commands, or wrestling with configuration files. The CLI changed this by becoming the universal layer — one command interface that handles every AI agent that supports the SKILL.md standard.

Why It Matters

The skills standard is agent-agnostic, but each agent has its own conventions for where skills live: ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code, ~/.cursor/skills/ for Cursor, ~/.codex/skills/ for Codex CLI, ~/.gemini/skills/ for Gemini CLI, and so on. Without the CLI, you had to know each convention and manually copy files to the right place.

The Vercel CLI scans your machine for installed AI agents and automatically routes skill installations to the correct directories for each one. Install once, and the skill is available everywhere.

The Essential Commands

The CLI is invoked through npx (no global install required):

# Browse skills.sh interactively
npx skills find

# Install a skill (auto-detects your agents)
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills

# Install for one specific agent only
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills --agent claude-code

# List all installed skills across all agents
npx skills list

# Update everything to latest versions
npx skills update

# Remove a skill
npx skills remove [skill-name]

# Show detailed info about a skill
npx skills info [skill-name]

The 19 Supported Agents

The CLI currently supports installing to: amp, antigravity, claude-code, clawdbot, codex, cursor, droid, gemini, gemini-cli, github-copilot, goose, kilo, kiro-cli, opencode, roo, trae and windsurf. New agents are added as they adopt the standard.

Detection works automatically — if you have Claude Code installed, the CLI finds it. If you also have Cursor, the CLI finds it too. When you install a skill, it goes to all relevant agents at once. This means switching between AI tools or adding new ones is seamless — your skills travel with you.

The find Command and skills.sh Integration

The most useful command for new users is npx skills find. It opens an interactive browser of skills.sh, lets you filter by agent, category and install count, preview SKILL.md content before installing, and install with a single keystroke.

This makes discovery significantly more pleasant than searching GitHub manually. You see what is popular, what is well-maintained and what fits your specific agents — all without leaving the terminal.

Updates and Maintenance

Once you have a library of installed skills, the CLI handles maintenance. npx skills update fetches the latest version of every installed skill across every agent. New features and bug fixes propagate automatically when you choose to update. The CLI tracks which version of which skill is installed where, so updates are non-destructive and reversible.
